Debra Thompson, Chair, Associates of Brand Library & Art Center, is pleased to announce that Dreamscape with Leonora Carrington (Mexico City, 1954) by RHONDA URDANG has been accepted for inclusion in Brand 52: Annual National Exhibition of Works on Paper. This year, The Associates of Brand Library & Art Center welcome art critic, curator, and author Shana Nys Dambrot. Based in Downtown LA, Dambrot is the Arts Editor for L.A. Weekly, and a contributor to Flaunt, Artillery Magazine, and other culture publications. She studied Art History at Vassar College, has curated and juried many exhibitions, writes prolifically for exhibition catalogs and monographic publications, and speaks at galleries, schools, and cultural institutions nationally. With Dambrot's careful eye, 106 artworks were chosen from an entry pool of over 1500 submissions. The NAWA Exhibition Committee is delighted to announce that two new femmage works by RHONDA URDANG have been accepted into their upcoming exhibition for Celebrating Women Who Tell Our Stories -- held during the National Womens' History Month at Vanda Gallery, curated by Signature member Zahra Jlayer, the founder and curator of the gallery. Beate Minkovski, Co-founder of WMG, has announced that Grandmother Time by RHONDA URDANG has been selected for Small Works Members Exhibition at Woman Made Gallery by WMG's Program Committee. Bernadette Carroll, Chief Operating Officer, is pleased to announce that Frida Kahlo y Calderon and Federico Garcia Lorca in Quarantine with Themselves (Havana Syndrome, Cuba, 2016) by RHONDA URDANG has been accepted into Sedona Arts Center Contemporary Surrealism Show. 315 works by 98 artists from across the country were submitted for review with only 63 pieces approved for inclusion in this national juried exhibition. Sedona Arts Center turns 65 this year and in honor of this milestone, they are celebrating the themes of their exhibits and events in relation to their history. This exhibit harkens back to the roots of the Arts Center and the connection to Max Ernst and Dorothea Tanning in the early 1960's. Surrealism is a style of art in which ideas, images and objects are combined in a strange way, showing the creative potential of the unconscious mind. Marisa Miles, WMG Program Coordinator, is pleased to announce that Frida Kahlo y Calderon and Federico Garcia Lorca in Quarantine with Themselves (Havana Syndrome, Cuba, 2016) by RHONDA URDANG has been selected to debut in Absurdity: In Dada We Trust at Woman Made Gallery. Co-jurors Kelly P. Hansen and Beate Minkovski, artists who co-founded and established WMG in 1992, viewed images of around 700 works and selected 43 other artists' submissions to be represented in their gallery space. This group show is inspired by a collaboration between The Art Center Highland Park, Chicago Women's Caucus for Art, Stola Contemporary Art, and Alma Interiors, and is being presented in honor of artist Helene Romer Smith, who died in March 2022. When the world goes mad, the arts go Dada. In the US and across the globe, bullies have been applauded and emboldened to share self-serving rhetoric of nationalism and to act out of sanctioned racism. Created as a reaction to the absurdity of war and the propaganda of WWl, Dadaism was the reaction of a group of artists from another time in history when the world was on the brink of madness. That is why Woman Made Gallery is joining this collaboration in building a coalition to fight back against the current trend toward insanity. Women's rights are being set back 50 years, and the LGBTQ community is dangling by a thread as individual rights are regulated, but assault weapons are not. Goddesses and Monsters will open online at LADIES' ROOM -- DTLA Contemporary Art Gallery, Los Angeles, CA, on Friday, June 9. Guest curated by the Association of Hysteric Curators, Goddesses and Monsters takes up one of the most enduring themes of feminist art praxis: "the uncomfortable tensions that arise while claiming femme power and subjectivity within a white supremacist, capitalistic, cis-heteropatriarchal culture." The works in this exhibition utilize the archetypes of Goddess and Monster (sometimes simultaneously) to present windows into worlds on the horizon of our current politics. Goddesses and Monsters is trifurcated into three segments of feminist discourse: Icons and Myths, Ritual/ Remnant, and Unruly Bodies. The Association of Hysteric Curators, feminist art collective co-founded by Mary Anna Pomonis, is excited to announce that a brand new femmage The Conjuring of Our Lady of Andromeda (Unchained) by RHONDA URDANG has been selected and will debut for their upcoming group show Goddesses and Monsters. The Association of Hysteric Curators is focused on advancing the lives and works of Feminist artists. Invited artworks draw on archetypes of goddesses and monsters to address these respective themes that meaningfully transcend masculinist tropes of goddess and monster iconography, to create a wholly new genre for feminist art history. The goal is to create an original pantheon of sacred images -- both awesome and terrible -- to guide and inspire viewers in our global struggle for gender equity and justice. Alex Gregory, Curator of Art, Amarillo Museum of Art, is pleased to announce that Georgia O'Keeffe (Presidential Medal of Freedom, 1977) by RHONDA URDANG has been accepted for inclusion in AMoA Biennial 600: Justice . Equality . Race . Identity by distinguished juror LESLIE MOODY CASTRO. The exhibition is the ninth in a series of ongoing juried biennials that explore specific areas of artistic practice, material, and content. This year, the AMoA staff and Board of Trustees are excited to offer the museum's exhibition spaces to artists with a socially engaged art practice. The exhibition will be a collection of artworks submitted by artists residing within a 600-mile radius of Amarillo, TX. On view will be more than 120 artworks in a variety of media from 46 artists. Voting Daughters is an exhibition aimed at celebrating the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment. This exhibition is juried by JUDITH MAYER, an American Illustrator and design artist, born and raised in the Midwest by immigrant parents. Mayer has a BFA from Ball State University and teaches traditional calligraphy at the Lillstreet Art Center in Chicago. Her work has been published in over 35 books and magazines and her work is influenced by her years as a graphic designer and her love of mid-century modern and pop art.
